A Middle-of-the-Road (for Seattle) Look at City Policies from the View of the Average Seattleite

About The Seattle Median

With a median age of 35.5, Seattle’s a young city. With a median income of $122,000, we’re also an affluent city. We’re almost evenly split by gender: 51% male, 49% female. This site aims to provide lots of data. It also aims to reflect the interests and curiosities of the median Seattleite. Who is that?
  • Someone who believes Seattle and its neighborhoods provide great, vibrant places to live.
  • Someone for whom homelessness, public safety, and the cost of living (specifically housing) are top concerns.
  • Who is worried about Trump.
  • Who loves the outdoors and cares about the environment.
  • Who’s optimistic about Seattle’s future, but ambivalent about the current track.
  • Who votes progressive and believes our City leaders and policies should take care of the basics and make progress.
  • Who genuinely wants to know: Are things getting progressively better or progressively worse? Where and how?

Mission

Seattle is a model for progressive policy. But it can be hard to figure out how these policies are performing – and sometimes uncomfortable to ask the question.

The Seattle Median is a place for progressives to ask questions they might not want to ask in public  and get answers from public records and public data – from a curious point of view but without all the punditry.
